Coming home from
the hospital and walking into our home with Madie I knew things would never be
the same. She has brought such a sweet spirit into our home. The first few
weeks of Madie’s life was challenging and exhausting. There are a lot of things
I don’t remember and the best way I can describe it was feeling like a zombie. My
sweet mom would come over every morning to help me figure out how to be a mom
and relieve me so I could sleep and recover from my C-section. But the thing
that I do remember most is how special and simple our days were! I loved just
being with Jer and Madie! Together we were learning about each other and
scrambling to figure out how to be parents. It was a very spiritual experience
and I had such an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and love from my Heavenly
Father.
A few things
about Madie during her first month:
- She
was a fussy baby. People would ask me why and honestly I had no idea. I think
she was a little colicky but at that time I was just trying to keep us all
alive so I couldn’t quite figure it out.
- She
is SUPER social. Madie never cuddles because she is too busy looking around.
She could hold her head up from day one so she was busy learning and taking
everything in.
- She
was not a good sleeper. Part of that was because she was so social and didn’t
want to miss out of anything that was going on (just like her dad). I
eventually figured out I have to cover her eyes with a blanket while rocking
her to sleep so she would feel like nothing was happening around her.
- She
was a champ eater. She never had a difficult time figuring out how to eat (just
like her mom).
- She
had hairy ears and shoulders.
- She
has big hands and feet.
- She
started sleeping in her crib around 2 weeks old.
- She
loved any kind of motion.
